The picture to the left shows a male to male HDMI cable, this is currently the most common connecting cable on LCD and Plasma TVs.
HDMI Cables carry both picture and sound via a single cable, if you are connecting a DVD Player, Blu Ray DVD player, Sky HD box, Playstation 3 or XBox 360 or any other unit with an HDMI outout then this is the cable you require.
HDMI cables are tested at the factory to ensure they meet a certain standard, over time the standards have evolved to allow for higher data rates and hence higher resolutions to be transferred, this has resulted in confusion with cables being branded as HDMI 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.3b, 1.3c and soon to be 1.4.
